Will Poulter will take on the role of Adam Warlock, who finally makes his MCU debut in Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

Lord of the Rings TV Show Gets Midsommar Star Will Poulter in Lead Role

There is a moment of trepidation for any actor taking on a role in a movie or TV show when the original creator of that character has a say in the casting. For Will Pouter and his upcoming appearance as Adam Warlock in Guardian of The Galaxy Vol.3 however, it seems that Marvel comic book writer Jim Starlin is more than on board with the actor portraying Adam Warlock in the MCU. After numerous delays thanks to a combination of director James Gunn’s firing and rehiring, COVID-19 and a schedule shuffled caused by both, the third and potentially final outing for the Guardians team is finally filming, and only last month was it announced that Adam Warlock would finally be making his debut in the MCU – after being teased all the way back in the post-credit scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – and that he would played by Detroit and Midsommar actor Poulter.

Like every Marvel movie, there is already a strong hype building around the latest Guardians adventure. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, there are a lot of questions waiting to be answered in this film and in Thor: Love and Thunder, which also features some prominent members of the Guardians group. The addition of the long awaited Adam Warlock is just another rung added to that golden ladder of excitement.

When it comes to the comic books, Jim Stalin was not only responsible for creating the Guardians of the Galaxy, but also one of the biggest MCU villains to date, Thanos. While he did not create Adam Warlock, Stalin was responsible for much of the character’s expansion over the years, so it is only to be expected that fans wonder exactly what the writer feels about the casting of Poulter in the role. Speaking in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Stalin explained that he has acquired a list of Poulter’s movie work, which includes films such as The Maze Runner franchise, that he intends to watch in the near future to acquaint himself with the young actor’s work. Stalin said:

“I never pictured [Josh] Brolin as Thanos. I had a couple of other actors in mind. But now I can’t imagine anyone but Brolin playing Thanos. They’ve been good at casting the characters. This actor will probably turn out to be just as good as the others.”

It has to be said that he could not be any more spot on with his comment about Brolin’s Thanos, as like pretty much every character in the MCU, the casting has been pretty solid from the get go, with so many unexpected names taking on the heroes and villains of the world’s biggest interconnected movie franchise. Stalin has already seen many of his characters being adapted to screen, including Pip the Troll, who made his slightly criticized debut in Eternals’ mid-credits scene alongside Harry Styles’ Eros/Starfox, and despite Adam Warlock not being Stalin’s original creation, he has enough investment in the character to enjoy watching him come alive on screen when the movie hits cinemas in May 2023.
