Although John Wick 4 wrapped filming a couple of weeks ago, there has been no official word on what the full title of the fourth installment will be. It now looks like that may have been taken out of the hands of Warner Bros. as a new image of one of the wrap gifts seems to have unveiled he title for them. The image featuring a black boot bag given out to the cast and crew, which is emblazoned with the words “John 4 Wick Hagakure“, suggesting that Hagakure is the missing part of the title that we have been waiting for.
John Wick: Chapter 3 picked up the subtitle of Parabellum, which is a Latin word meaning “prepare for war” and now it seems that another simple one word subtitle will be added to the end of John Wick: Chapter 4. Hagakure is a Japanese text collecting together the thoughts and teachings of Yamamoto Tsunetomo on the ways of the samurai. This obviously fits in very well with the franchise’s central use of martial arts, as well as the casting of Donnie Yen, and seems too much of a stretch to believe it is not the official title of Keanu Reeves’ fourth outing as the dog-loving assassin.
When he was previously discussing being given the role, Yen said in an interview with Collider, “I have to take this opportunity to (express) my utmost appreciation for Chad (Stahelski) and Keanu (Reeves). They’re just lovely men, gentlemen, they’ve got a big heart. Keanu’s got a good soul, a good man. Chad is also a very good man, very knowledgeable. People think of him as a brilliant action guy, he’s not (just that), he understands films. He’s a film librarian, he knows what’s going on. I’m having the best time working with them in this movie, (more) than any of my previous Hollywood movies, so I wanted to express my appreciation.”
He added, “He’s great, it’s more than I expected. He’s the guy, he does everything himself. He put in the hours, he put in the work and he can do it. He’s no joke. I have that respect for him, and he’s just a cool guy to be around and to work with.”
When filming drew to a close on the movie, Keanu Reeves proved once again that he is one of the most stand-up guys in the business, shelling out $10k on watches for each of the stunt crew who worked on the movie, with each one being engraved with the message, “The John Wick Five, [NAME] Thank You. Keanu. JW4 2021.” Two of the team were eager to show off their new presents, as well as sharing images of the moment they received the watches.
As well as John Wick: Chapter 4 – Hagakure, it has also been announced recently that not only is The Continental spin-off TV event coming, but also the long rumored Ballerina spin-off has taken a big leap forward, with Ana De Armas reportedly in talks to take the lead in that film, fresh off her role alongside Daniel Craig in his final Bond adventure, No Time To Die. While both spin-offs have yet to announce an expected debut date, John Wick 4 will hit theaters on May 27th, 2022.
