Tatiana Maslany’s She-Hulk Would Be Entirely CGI & Motion-Capture

She-Hulk is set to debut on Disney+ in 2022 as part of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Four slate. The show will mark the debut of the titular character and her alter-ego, Jennifer Walters, who will be portrayed in the show by actress Tatiana Maslany. The exact plot details of She-Hulk and an official synopsis are yet to be revealed, but it’s known that Maslany’s Jennifer Walters would be the cynosure of the show, focusing on her transformation from a lawyer into a green angry superbeing.

Jennifer Walters is a New York City lawyer who after getting into an accident, is given a blood transfusion from her cousin, who happens to be Dr. Bruce Banner, a leading expert on gamma radiation, and of course, The Hulk. The radioactive blood sent into Jennifer’s veins causes her to go through a similar bodily reaction as her cousin, transforming her into She-Hulk. That gives Jennifer not just Hulk-like powers and strength, but also a huge build and green skin, thus, altering her physical appearance.

This alteration of Maslany’s character on the show would be made possible due to extensive CGI and motion capture, a detail that has been confirmed by Maslany. Talking to Scott Hasn’t Seen podcast (The Direct), Maslany said:

It’s all CG… I’m in mo-cap the whole time. I’m on platforms with mo-cap where I have a little head on the top of my head…

Marvel is making She-Hulk undergo the same VFX treatment it has used for Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk. For a very long time, Marvel has resorted to complete motion-capture and CGI for filming scenes where Bruce transforms into The Hulk. It was way back in Marvel’s The Avengers (2012), where Joss Whedon used bulk suits to film certain sequences for the character. After the character’s transformation into Smart Hulk, Mark Ruffalo shot the entirety of Avengers: Endgame in a motion-capture suit. For now, it won’t be the same for Tatiana Maslany, who’d be extensively featured on the show in her character’s human form.

She-Hulk would be made available to stream on Disney+ in 2022. Besides Maslany, the show will bring back Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk. The show will probably reveal how Bruce is able to re-transform into his human form (as seen in Shang-Chi: The Legend of the Ten Rings) after it was revealed that he had infused his brain with Hulk’s brawn for good in Endgame. Also reprising his role in the show is Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/Abomination, whose story arc would continue after his first appearance in The Incredible Hulk (2008) and lately in Shang-Chi (2021).

She-Hulk would also star Jameela Jamil as Titania, Jennifer’s rival. Alongside will star Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, Anais Almonte, and Renee Elise Goldsberry.

Besides these confirmed actors, there might be some MCU cameos we can expect to appear in the show. Since Jennifer Walters is a lawyer dealing in superhuman affairs, we may see a glimpse or two of some other Marvel superheroes. In this regard, Kevin Feige has revealed in last year’s Disney Investors Day Event,

Since Jennifer Walters is a lawyer who specializes specifically in superhero-oriented legal cases, you never know what Marvel character could pop up, from episode to episode.

She-Hulk would be a ten-episode miniseries and will be one of the many MCU series to arrive on Disney+ next year, including Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel. How excited you are for She-Hulk?
